Gmail Promotions annotations are eligible, not guaranteed
Do Gmail Promotions tab annotations improve inbox placement?
Global · Gmail
In one sentence
Gmail promo annotations can make a deal look richer — they are not a promise of placement and do not fix .
Plain English
Product carousels and offer annotations in Gmail’s Promotions tab are eligibility features. Google does not guarantee every recipient sees them. They do not move you out of Promotions or replace authentication and low complaints.
Why it matters. Do not sell leadership “we’ll get annotations so inbox improves.” Annotations ≠ deliverability.

What to do
Your move — not a lecture
Good to know — nothing to fix
Changes a number you report or a risk you carry, not today's task list.
Some expose annotation fields; many strip or ignore schema. Verify your stack.
Your part: Whether the creative is worth the engineering, and accepting non-guaranteed rendering.
What to do first
If a vendor sold you annotations as "," close the tab. If you still want merchandising, read Google's Promotions overview and FAQ dated pages.
You can skip this if: You do not care about Gmail Promotions-tab UI chrome.
Who this applies to
Consumer brands that care about Gmail Promotions-tab presentation.
Checklist
- 01Treat annotations as optional UI, never as a spam-rate fix.
- 02Follow Google's current image and field requirements; invalid markup simply may not render.
- 03Do not claim classification benefits Google explicitly denies.

The exact position
Google lets senders annotate promotional emails with structured data for richer Promotions-tab presentation. Google states annotations might not be visible to all recipients and that annotation has no effect on the Gmail tab classifier. Markup is optional merchandising, not a compliance or deliverability guarantee.
What happens if you do not
None. Failed or filtered annotations simply do not show. The email still sends under normal rules.
